Food for thought: Benediction

Good things are meant for sharing. Here I present to you some food for thought in the form of a poem which I found in the Jan/Feb 2007 issue of this Buddhist Lifestyle Magazine, Vaidurya, which my mom subscribed to. It's really meaningful and thought-provoking.

Benediction

If you wake up today with no pain, you are luckier than most.

If you have never known the dangers of war, loneliness of prison, or hunger, you are better off than 500 million people in the world.

If you can go to your church or temple or follow your beliefs without persecution, you are luckier than three million people on this planet.

If your basic needs are covered, you are richer than 75 per cent of the rest of the world.

If you have some savings, you are part of the 10 per cent of the most prosperous people in the world.

If you saw your parents grow old together, you are almost unique.

If you smile and appreciate life, you are lucky because lots of people can but they don't.

If you have someone whose hand you can hold or can hug or even just a shoulder to cry on, be happy, you will never be lonely.

If you can read this, you are blessed because more than two million people on the planet cannot read.

Dwell on your blessings and achieve higher goals for the benefit of yourself and others.

Stay tune for more cos I will continue to post such entries if I come across more of such food for thoughts in the magazine. Till then, bye!
